Therapeutic exercise in Hamburg-Ottensen
The foundation of almost every physiotherapy treatment — and the part that lasts longest, because you can carry it on yourself.
What it is
Therapeutic exercise is active movement therapy. At its core it is about restoring a movement that currently does not work, or only works with pain — and loading the tissue so that it adapts and becomes resilient again.
That sounds unspectacular, and that is exactly why it works. Passive measures such as massage or heat relieve symptoms in the short term; lasting change almost always comes through movement and load.
When it helps
Typical reasons people come to me:
- after surgery on knee, shoulder, hip or spine
- after fractures, once immobilisation has ended
- with back and neck pain without a clear trigger
- with recurring complaints that keep appearing in the same place in daily life or in sport
- when strength, mobility or confidence in a movement are missing after an injury
How it works with me
We start with what you want to be able to do again. Everything else follows from that. From the examination and our conversation a picture emerges, which I explain to you.
Then we work: on mobility, on strength, on control of the movement. Where it makes sense I combine the exercises with manual therapy — that creates the room which training then fills.
You will take exercises home from the very first session, with clear guidance on repetitions, tempo and rest.
Common complaints
Most often I sit down with people whose back or neck has been nagging for weeks without any accident. Usually it is a mixture: little movement, a lot of sitting, and tissue that would need to tolerate more load than it is used to.
The second large group is knees and shoulders — after cruciate ligament tears, meniscus surgery, rotator cuff repair or shoulder dislocation. Here the process is more clearly structured, because operated tissue has its own healing timelines.
And finally the group that interests me most: athletes with overuse complaints. In Ottensen and Altona these are strikingly often runners and climbers.
Billing
I treat patients with all statutory health insurers, private patients, employers’ liability insurance associations (BG) and self-payers.
Whether your treatment runs on a prescription or as a self-pay service, we clarify before the first appointment — you know in advance what to expect.
