Medical training therapy in Hamburg

The part of treatment that turns "pain-free again" into "resilient again".

What it is

Medical training therapy is structured training with a therapeutic goal. It begins where acute treatment ends: symptoms are gone or clearly better — but load capacity is not there yet.

Unlike training at a gym, the load follows the healing state of the tissue and a defined training stimulus, not simply what feels possible.

When it helps

  • in the build-up phase after surgery or injury
  • with tendon complaints — Achilles, patellar tendon, tennis elbow
  • with recurring complaints despite being symptom-free day to day
  • before returning to sport or physical work
  • as prevention, when an injury should not happen again

How it works with me

We define the training stimulus — strength endurance, strength, recruitment, coordination or tendon training, depending on the goal. Each has its own targets for repetitions, rest, tempo and recovery. The full overview is in the training FAQ.

Every two to six weeks we change the stimulus so the effect does not flatten out. Progression follows the first set: more repetitions than the upper limit means more weight.

Tendons need particular patience. They have a poorer blood supply than muscle, need up to five days of recovery and only respond with structural adaptation after months. That is not a setback, it is biology.

Especially for climbers and boulderers

Climbing loads structures that everyday life barely challenges — finger pulleys, flexor tendons, the rotator cuff, the elbow. And it loads them at an intensity that often overwhelms connective tissue sooner than the muscles signal.

This is exactly where structured training is the tool of choice. Tendon tissue responds to long, slow loading under tension. What it does not need is weeks of rest: a pulley that is never loaded does not become more resilient.

I have been climbing myself for many years. That does not replace diagnostics, but it helps with putting things in context.
